Marlin Fatbikes has been in the market for some time now, and the brand is coming up with good looking models of their entry level performance bikes. Many riders avoid Indian brands due to the lack of quality and performance. Fatbikes is changing this prejudice one biker at a time.
Marlin bikes is a product of TI Cycles of India, the second largest cycle manufacturer in India. And is also the first carbon bike in India. Among the Marlin fatbikes inventory, they even have recently developed an entry level mountain bicycles which might give a hard time to competitive brands like Firefox bicycles Bangalore, Sun cross and the entry level models offered by Trek Bikes in India.
We checked the Made in India. The bike which made its debut in the 9th MTB Himalaya this year was tested through demanding trails. This hard tail XC bike features a matt finish alloy frame with nice curves, forged dropouts and great graphics.
Overall, Fatbikes is a decent package for an entry level mountain bike which is Made in India and can be made better with superior drivetrain like Shimano Deore or Sram X-5 or above with 8 or 9 speed. The bike is priced attractively, and will make a great first bike for those who are just entering the sport.
On the other hand, is not a light weight category bike which might be a snag if you are about to hit steep and long climb sections. However, the RST Blaze fork with a lockout was a bonus and it helps riders to ascend little faster. However, its frame is frame is not designed for aggressive riding on very technical trails.
The bike comes with Jagwire cables with matching colors that make the bike appealing. As mentioned earlier, this is an entry level mountain bicycles in Bangalore, so it comes with Shimano mechanical disc brakes which are fine for normal use, but if you plan to ride hard you might want to upgrade to hydraulic disc brakes and a better headset too, as the one on this bike seemed a bit unreliable for long term and aggressive riding.
It is a great upgrade from its predecessor, which looks simple and fragile, yet delivers a stunning performance. The predecessor has well engineered dropouts and derailleur cables that run from the bottom of the down tube. The grips have a dual compound with hard and soft sections designed for optimum comfort on the palm and grips in the fingers.
Both bikes are light, agile, and fun to ride. The bikes feel stable and feel firms on turns. The forks absorb every stress the trail throws with ease; we could definitely feel the smoothness in the ride. The bikes work well on descents too, and can be lifted with ease whenever you want to. The Bikes is a great bike to launch yourself into the sport without burning a hole in your pockets.
